The Public Defender Society of Nepal (PDS-Nepal), an organization spun off from ILF-Nepal, a project of The International Legal Foundation, is a not-for-profit, nongovernmental organization that upholds the human right to a fair trial and life and liberty, by defending poor, marginalized and vulnerable persons accused of criminal offenses, regardless of age, gender and ethnicity. It also works with the government to build its capacity to meet its legal obligation to provide criminal defense services to poor persons who cannot afford to hire private lawyers, so that all accused have equal access to competent defense lawyers. The primary mission of the organization is to ensure fair and effective access to justice, to develop a public defender system in Nepal and to work to develop the efficiency and sustainability of a Nepal public defender system. It focuses on the need for quality and meaningful legal representation for indigent accused in judicial and quasi-judicial tribunals.

Primary Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  1. Update PDS-Nepal client information in the database from Kathmandu & district offices.
  2. Follow up to district offices and concern parties for information.
  3. Extract data from database, analyze and present it as pre requirement.
  4. Conduct phone based survey.
  5. Facilitate and coordinate with advocates to collect required data.
  6. Interpret data on the basis of data from database.
  7. Ready to travel to any PDS-Nepal project district as per required.
  8. Any other work assigned as and when required by Executive Director & Deputy Director

Note: Successful candidates are expected to work full-time for PDS-Nepal and are prohibited from conducting work outside of PDS-Nepal.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree any discipline of Social Science (preferably Statistics, Population Studies)
  • Substantial experience (2 years and above preferred) in data entry and maintaining data integrity.
  • High level of experience using computer applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, SPSS and/or Filemaker Pro
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Any database related training and experience.
  • Experience conducting surveys or interviews for social science research
  • Experience with database management and design
  • Good English language skills

Salary: NRs. 33,000.00 before tax (after probation, probation period will be 3-4 months). Other benefits are as per organization policy.
