CALL FOR AUDIT FOR FY 2080/081
The Public Defender Society of Nepal (PDS-Nepal) is a Nepali non-profit nongovernmental organization
Defense lawyers play an indispensable role in the criminal justice system. By providing early and effective representation to their clients, they ensure that laws protecting the rights of the accused are implemented meaningfully and effectively. Their presence provides a vital oversight mechanism that prevents arbitrary detention and mitigates torture and other abuse by law enforcement. Lawyers also protect the right to defense, endeavoring to avert wrongful conviction. Indeed, a defense lawyer is so fundamental to the right to a fair trial that the deprivation of one virtually ensures indefinite detention and almost certain conviction.
PDS-Nepal is working to increase access to justice by ensuring that every poor person charged with a crime has access to legal representation at the earliest possible stage of the criminal process.
PDS-Nepal provides high-quality criminal defense legal aid service to the poor and vulnerable people charge for the crime before a regular court or Quasi-Judicial. Twenty well-trained dedicated defense lawyers are providing free defense legal representation through eight offices across the country: Kathmandu, Morang, Janakpur, Parsa, Makwanpur, Rupandehi, Nepalgunj, and Kanchanpur.
