A two day interaction program was organized by Judges Society Nepal in Biratnagar on 8-9 September. The program was supported by PDS-Nepal. Honorable Chief Judge of Biratnagar High Court Dr. Kul Ratna Bhurtel was the Chief Guest of the inaugural program while the program was chaired by Former Justice of Supreme Court Mohan Prakash Sitaula.
Addressing the program, Chief Justice Dr. Bhurtel said that he was happy to learn that PDS-Nepal was providing all necessary support and assistance to Judges Society Nepal. Thanking all the participants for attending the program in a short notice, Chief Judge Dr. Bhurtel said that the theme of the program was very relevant in the context of changing governance system of Nepal.
Addressing the same program, Former Justice of Supreme Court and Vice Chairman of Judges Society Nepal Mohan Prakash Sitaula thanked all the judges for their cooperation and support to Judges Society. He also thanked PDS-Nepal for its continued support to Judges Society Nepal. Talking about international practices, Former Justice Sitaula urged the participating judges to continue reading more and more international journals on law. He also stressed on judges role in ensuring fair and speedy trial in criminal cases.
After the inaugural session, Former Chief Justice Mohan Prakash Sitaula conducted a session on Right to remain silent. The second day started with Honorable Judge Rajendra Kharel making his presentation Juvenile Justice. The session was conducted by Chief Judge Dr. Kul Ratna Bhurtel and the theme of his presentation was Fair Trial: Theory and its Application in Nepal. The last and final presentation was conducted by Executive Director of Public Defender Society of Nepal Ajay Shankar Jha "Rupesh" and his theme was Free Legal Aid and Right to Counsel. A total of 40 participants attended the program.
